LIVE EXPERIENCE
The Elephant In The Womb live experience is a combination of gig, singalong and gentle reflective activities which gives voice to women’s tender silences; a transformational musical experience between contemporary ‘mad trad’ folk singer Joanie Bones and live audiences on themes which historically women have tended to go through alone. A capella songs, optional audience participation and trauma-informed tools are joyfully crafted into an interactive musical experience that is both accessible & transformational. Based on workshops and discussions held at festivals and online over several years, research into what topics are excluded from the traditional folk song repertoire, and developed in conjunction with survivors of various traumatic experiences, 'Elephant' is a shared journey into the hidden yet universal stories of women’s endurance- through taboo, isolation & shame into a shared experience of positivity, connection & growth. All genders are welcome. For those wanting to explore the topics further, the performance is followed by a discussion, and Joanie offers several ways for people to stay connected in the future. Elephant is performed in a circle and welcomes all voices and experiences, together transforming we transform the grief and shame of historic isolation into connection, redemption and celebration. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
Wow, thank you. You need to take this show far and wide. Bring it to women anywhere!
Really enjoyed the mixture of song, sharing, history, connection & interaction. More women need to experience is, thank you! This is SO beautiful and needed - THANK YOU! I have experienced many events exploring issues / feelings around women's bodies. I really liked this one. No assumptions were made. It was loving and thoughtful, gentle and modern. You're doing something amazing!! MOST COMMON WORD USED TO DESCRIBE HOW AUDIENCES FELT AFTERWARDS:

ARTIST BIO
Joanie Bones sings 'Mad Trad', a genre of her own invention which encompasses her deep love of traditional British folk song, harmony singing, storytelling and experimental percussion.
Originally from London, of mixed Persian/Jewish descent and living in Scotland, Joanie was mentored by four-time winner of the Scots Singer of the Year Award Siobhan Miller and has a background as a professional storyteller. Joanie is committed to using song and story as a power for exploring meaning and creating unity. Much-loved songwriter and troubadour Martin Stephenson has described her as 'one of his favourite artists' and Skipinnish's Alasdair Murray has described her live performances, which often move people to tears, as 'enchanting'.
For this project she also uses her additional skills as a group facilitator. Whatever she is doing, Joanie calls us to gather together and sing over the bones of our culture’s brokenness, calling us back into wholeness and belonging.
