Language and inclusivity
As you may have read on this site, the original inspiration for The Light and Singing Women's Lives came out of a desire to create a much-needed resource for the community of people who experience, may experience, of have experienced the menopause. The project itself then grew arms and wings, exploring other topics that this community needed support around.
Language and our approach to gender and identity are changing, and the term 'woman' has become contested, with different meanings for different people.
All Joanie's work is offered in the service of love and healing, while these two projects are primarily offered to people who experience the biological issues associated with being female: experiences around menarche, having to grapple with issues around motherhood, birth, and the menopause, and the associated societal discriminations that have historically gone hand-in-hand with being viewed by others as female or a woman, regardless of how one understands or describes oneself.
Always open to sensitive, respectful discussion around these issues, Joanie hopes her work is of service to all humanity.
